This was taken with my Sony A68 at 1/60s, f/5, ISO4000. I could have used a flash here to keep the ISO from going so high, but I don’t think the grain looks so bad. I chose no flash because I wanted a darker, softer ambiance. I instead strategically positioned a end table lamp camera left to get a soft warm glow on my face.
The harsher light coming from camera right was from the kitchen windows which had the shades drawn so the light was blocked out as much as possible but it still shined through too much. Would be great to have an actual studio!
I’m definitely asking for an off-camera flash stand for my birthday this year. I already have the flash, I just use it on-camera right now. But having it off camera will help me create better and more diverse portraits.
