TWLOHA – To Write Love On Her Arms is a non-profit organization I came across about ten years ago. Their mission is “dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.” I always liked their image of writing the word love on the arm as a symbol for life.
I have personally experienced or have been affected by someone who has experienced all of the above issues as many, many people have. One in five people experience a mental health issue. One is twenty five Americans live with a serious mental illness. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. If you or someone you love is experiencing mental illness symptoms, get help right away. In the U.S., the Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 1-800-273-8255.
