Craving Creativity: Photographing Ice and Navigating Mental Health Struggles

I received a gift for Christmas last year that is a deck of cards of photography ideas. I pull one at random every so often just to challenge myself to complete the idea. This month the card I pulled said, “Ice.”

Hmmm, I tried to photograph some ice in a glass but they all came out flat and boring. Then I saw a piece of aluminum foil on my stove and wondered how the ice might look on it. Better than the glass of ice but not amazing.

How would you photograph “ice”?

As a little life update, I can tell you I am struggling mental health wise. I find myself unmotivated and with lack of purpose even though my days always include productive activities.

My creativity is suffering as I haven’t posted any nature photography in a while. Now that spring is here I will hopefully feel like venturing out in the warmer weather when it arrives (it is still very cool this week.)

The first ice shot is cool. No pun intended.
I think ice in a glass with a black background might be good. But you would need to experiment with the lighting to get any idea. Of course now that winter is mostly gone, any natural ice is gone too.
I hope you feel better soon and with more daylight and warmer days, hopefully you can get outside often .

My kind of gift! I received a book of 101 things to photograph as a gift from a friend and fellow photographer. Sheila I hope the gift of “Spring” surprises you with boundless creativity and lifts your spirits! Be well, Robert!
