This photo says untouched, untainted, wild and free; not cleared away for highways or skyscrapers or subdivisions. Still a home for birds, squirrels and whatever crawls in its small spaces.

I’m watching a show that takes place in the mid 18th century; a time before cars, electricity, telephones, plumbing and heating and air conditioning. It’s tempting to think it might have been nice to live in that era but I would be hating it on the first 90°F day without air conditioning!

The rest of it I think I could do. Ride horses, use candles, write letters, read a lot of books, use an outhouse and get my water from the river.

What modern day convenience would you miss the most if you lived in the 18th century?

Fresh food. Toilets and toilet paper. Medical treatment. Just to name a few.
