Lens-Artists Challenge #346 Cinematic

A blogging friend of mine invited me to join in this challenge that comes out every weekend so, I checked it out and decided to give it a go.

The challenge was put forth by Sophia here and she states:

The main objective is to take a shot that is part of a story, there’s mood and a sense of location; our image is but a snapshot of a much wider situation.

So here is the image I chose:

For Earth Day this weekend some of my town’s citizens volunteered to plant flowers and mulch at various locations around the city.

I volunteer to take pictures of the city’s volunteers volunteering at a wide variety of events throughout the year.

I thought this picture fit the description of the challenge. They are planting here behind City Hall at the 9/11 Memorial Garden. I even cropped the image at 16:9 ratio per Sophia’s recommendation to give it a bit more of a cinematic feel.

What do you think?

i REALLY LIKE the idea of doing 16:9! i have looked at Sophia’s portfolio and she is an artist for sure. i bought an anamorphic lens a while back and was shooting with it so this brings back memories. this is such an underrated format and can produce creative techniques that would look, for lack of a better term, incongruent on 3:2 .

awesome pic Sheila! loved the overall action and feel of the photo. my only thing is that I wish you took more shots hehe 😀 have a great sunday, enjoyed reading! Mike

I have never heard of an anamorphic lens. I had to look it up to see what it was. I would love to see the images you made with it! I did take more pictures lol but wasn’t quite sure I had the right idea with the challenge so just posted the one. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great Sunday too!

Greetings Sheila and first and foremost welcome to our challenge! Honestly we don’t worry so much about right or wrong, we just offer the challenges to give participants a place to start 🙃. Your image works well for the prompt and I love its message – neighbors helping neighbors to make the world a more beautiful place. What could be better than that?!

I love it because it has a sense that you have really landed right in the middle of the event – things have clearly already happened / been planted, and there’s still work to go – fab! Linda xx

I would be so nervous about getting in the way – but everyone is getting on with business, so you must be very discreet! L xx

Yes, the candid ones are the easy ones because they are focused on their task and pay me no mind. It is when I interrupt them for a smile at the camera picture that I feel a bit guilty. But, they sign a photo release when they volunteer for the event so they know it’s coming lol
