Monochrome for Monday

I don’t make monochrome images very often because I almost always take nature pictures and I prefer to see nature in all its colorful glory. On this outing I specifically looked for objects that I thought would make nice black and white photos. I looked for lines and shapes mostly.

Black and white photos are not only about lines and structures, but it is what makes color photos too. It’s about the light, shadows and contrast.
This is what I like about digital cameras. In the past when I shot film, I often carried at least 2 and sometimes 3 cameras. One camera was for black and white, the other was for color. If my color camera has slide film, I might carry a cheap point and shoot camera with color film.
But with digital cameras, I can switch from color to black and white and I can even have different filter settings for my black and white! One camera, oh my!
Since I was “trained” in black and white, I often “see” the subject in my mind in black and white.
I prefer to shoot in black and white than in post switch the color to black and white.
